F.A.Q's
Why do I want this service?
Because you do not want the money expenditure and the hassle of no hot water as you wait for your sediment-filled, corroded, leak-prone, and possibly exploding tank to be replaced with a new one. The smart move is to renew your tank with us, saving you money with a more energy-efficient Water Heater, or buying a new one! Read more of our FAQ and Blog and decide for yourself, we’re here when you’re ready to book.
How do I know there is sediment in my Water Heater?
There is always sediment constantly accumulating inside your water heater. Here’s an article on Why ALL Water Heaters accumulate sediment. As a fact, 85% of the water in the United States contains enough dissolved minerals to be classified as hard water. Heat causes those minerals to precipitate out in the form of sediment. This sediment accumulates inside the storage tank.
Is Crystal Clear Reputable?
At Crystal Clear, we strive to obtain lifelong customers and are eager to prove it. This is why we are an accredited business by the BBB (Better Business Bureau). We are also members of several National organizations including the PHCC (Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, Contractors Association). Read more here! We’ve cut our teeth on servicing every brand of Water Heater and have encountered the numerous ways that they may be inconveniently installed for our service. We’re confident we will renew your tank!
What problems does sediment cause?
Many! It causes corrosion that will eat away your tank until it starts to leak, it displaces the water and lowers the capacity because the more sediment, the less room for water. It will add odors to the hot water coming out of your faucet and can cause popping sounds as air bubbles get trapped under it. It will burn out heating elements that are encased in the sediment, raising your gas or electricity usage too as it insulates the water from the burners and elements requiring a higher power draw. The scariest problem is that sediment can break free, plugging pipes and your tank’s Pressure Relief Valve, causing a situation where your Water Heater can explode! Read more here on the Dangers!
My Water Heater is New
From the moment you connect a new Water Heater to water, the heat will cause the dissolved minerals in the water to start accumulating in the tank. This is why ALL Water Heaters accumulate sediment. Even if your tank is one year old you should book our service, as it is recommended by the manufacturer to flush your tank every year, However “Flushing” isn’t enough to remove the Sediment. Only our service removes ALL of the sediment built up.
I’ve never flushed it before, why now?
Manufacturers and home maintenance experts recommend you flush your water heater once a year as a golden rule. However “Flushing” doesn’t work well in the first place. If you’ve never had your tank flushed you are guaranteed to have several POUNDS of sediment that will be so hardened it will not come out by flushing. Only our method will remove it and renew your tank. To help you AVOID the Dangers of Sediment Buildup we’d love to set an annual cleaning schedule with you, to keep the corroding sediment to a minimum.
Where does the sediment come from?
Water is known as the universal solvent for its ability to dissolve more substances than any other liquid. That makes it incredibly useful, but it can also create problems in certain situations. It’s especially effective at dissolving minerals like calcium, magnesium, and zinc. Read more here on the “Minerals in your Water”. In fact, 85% of the water in the United States contains enough dissolved minerals to be classified as hard water. Inside your water heater, heat causes those minerals to precipitate in the form of sediment. Read more here, This sediment accumulates inside the storage tank.
Is it worth it?
You need to flush your water heater every year. On a national average, it costs $200 for a plumber to flush your water heater for you, however, this only releases 1% of the sediment buildup at most. An article on Why “Flushing” doesn’t work, There is no way the hardened rock-like buildup will pass through such a tiny drain orifice with no agitation. Our Service will remove ALL of the sediment for the same price.
Will it damage my water heater?
With an innovative tool design and our proper training, it is impossible our service will damage your water heater. We have done various tests and serviced many different water heaters to ensure this is a true fact.
Will you make a mess of my house?
We train our technicians to leave your home cleaner than when we walked in the door. Our techs wear shoe booties, and bring towels, a vacuum, and a few other cleaning items to ensure this. We also take before and after photos to ensure everything is perfectly in its place.
I’m too busy!!
Great! Our fast service takes around 30 minutes – From the moment we meet you at the door, to the moment we clean everything up and walk out the door – It’s that fast! Schedule online for an extra convenient time, and we will be in and out before you can say Crystal Clear Tank Cleaning Services!
Why does the service take such a short amount of time?
At Crystal Clear, we have designed a systematic and outlined process, utilizing our proprietary tool, we can get your water heater renewed in no time! The biggest time saver is that we do not have to drain your water tank completely and chisel away the sediment by hand.
Are you Insured? What happens if there is an accident?
Our technicians are highly trained and skilled so accidents are rare. They are also insured and bonded in the rare instance an accident occurs, you will be taken care of.
What if the Tech cannot perform the service?
Read what the Service entails here, Example: The Tech cannot shut off the cold water valve to your tank due to the valve being stuck or corroded (*the valve needs to operate to perform the service). Our Tech will still assist you by flushing your tank in the standard method. This method will only remove a fraction of the sediment, so we will discount the service and recommend a plumber in your area to replace the stuck valve so that we can come back and fully perform the full service.
Bottom Line: We will do what we can, even if it is not the full service at the time, discount your rate, and re-schedule for a date when we can fully perform.
Is there a cancellation policy?
We understand life happens and you may need to cancel your service. We are here for YOU and will be as flexible as possible, but ask that you give the technician a 24-hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. If you give less than a 24-hour notice, you will be placed at the end of the line for circulating services. Remember, our service takes roughly 30 minutes from start to finish, not long at all!
